Teach a Fall Course in Paris

Step 1: Expression of Interest (Required)

Faculty interested in teaching at the Rice Global Paris Center during the Fall 2027 or Fall 2028 semester should submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by the deadline.

The purpose of the EOI is to identify faculty interested in teaching in Paris and to learn which undergraduate courses you would propose. While our immediate priority is planning for Fall 2027, we are also inviting expressions of interest for Fall 2028 as part of our effort to plan further in advance for future semesters.

Rice Global welcomes proposals for undergraduate courses across all disciplines and is particularly interested in courses with broad student appeal, including high-enrollment courses and courses that satisfy Rice undergraduate distribution requirements.

Your Expression of Interest Must Include

• An indication of whether you are interested in teaching in Fall 2027, Fall 2028, or either year.
• Two proposed undergraduate courses you would like considered.
• A brief (2–3 sentence) description of each course.

Because participation requires faculty to teach abroad for the entire Fall semester, departmental support at the expression of interest stage is essential to ensure that teaching assignments and departmental responsibilities can be appropriately planned.

Please ask your department chair to send a brief email directly to global@rice.edu confirming:

• their support for your expression of interest;
• that they understand participation requires you to teach at the Rice Global Paris Center for the full Fall semester; and
• that the department supports your participation and is prepared to accommodate your teaching assignment should your proposal ultimately be selected.

Expressions of interest will be reviewed by a faculty–dean committee. Selected faculty will then be invited to submit a formal application.

Submission Instructions

• Email your Expression of Interest to global@rice.edu with the subject line:
  Paris Fall 2027–2028 Expression of Interest
• Include your course descriptions either as a single PDF attachment or in the body of your email.
• Ask your department chair to submit their support email directly to global@rice.edu by the deadline.

Expression of Interest: Fall 2027–2028

• Deadline to submit an Expression of Interest: October 5, 2026
• Eligibility: Tenured, tenure-track, and full-time teaching faculty.

Expressions of interest received by the deadline will be considered for Fall 2027 and Fall 2028. Additional calls for expressions of interest will be issued annually as Rice Global continues long-term faculty planning.

Step 2: Formal Application (By Invitation Only)

Faculty invited to proceed will receive detailed guidance for preparing a formal application. For planning purposes, the application will include the following components.

Application Materials

• Confirmation of dean and department chair approval (determined in the EOI phase)
• A draft or recent syllabus for each proposed course
• Responses to the following prompts:
  • Course description
  • Integration of Paris into the academic curriculum
  • Classroom space and technology needs
  • Course-related supplies and anticipated costs
  • Opportunities for collaboration with local institutions, organizations, or professionals

Tentative Application Timeline

• Expression of Interest deadline: September 15, 2026
• Invitations to submit a formal application: Late September/Early October
• Formal application deadline (invited faculty only): Early to Mid-October
• Final selection decisions: Mid to Late October
