Crisis24 FAQs

Is Crisis24 Rice's travel insurance carrier?

No. Rice's Office of Risk Management maintains insurance that covers Rice-affiliated travel; Crisis24 is the company Rice contracts to provide assistance to travelers abroad. However, when you use Crisis24’s services, they bill directly to our insurance, so you don’t have to worry about filing a claim.

Do I need to pay to access Crisis24’s services?

No; as a Rice traveler, you have access to Crisis24 as part of Rice’s policy.

If you receive medical, security, or travel assistance through Crisis24, they will bill directly to Rice’s travel insurer, Zurich, for services covered under Rice’s insurance. You can find more information about coverage here.

However, if the service is not covered by Rice’s insurance policy, you may be responsible for those expenses. Reach out to the Office of Risk Management (riskmanagement@rice.edu) for more information.

Do I need to activate my Crisis24 membership?

No; as a member of the Rice community, you already have access to Crisis24’s services!

Does Rice have a Crisis24 membership number?

No; using Rice’s dedicated hotline number or reaching out via the Crisis24 Horizon portal on desktop or mobile will identify you as a member of the Rice community.

How does payment work? Will I need to file an insurance claim?

Crisis24 has a direct billing agreement with Rice’s travel insurer. Crisis24 will bill our carrier directly for anything covered under Rice’s travel insurance. You will not need to file a claim for covered services if you go through Crisis24.

If the service is not covered by Rice’s policy, Crisis24 will bill Rice directly via the Office of Risk Management.

For questions about insurance coverage, billing, and claims, contact the Office of Risk Management at riskmanagement@rice.edu.

Do I need to register my upcoming trip with Crisis24?
