Award Information
The University of Edinburgh and Rice University have identified each other as strategic partners to foster deep collaborations in research and education. The Rice- Edinburgh Strategic Collaboration Awards (SCA) have been established to facilitate and support joint initiatives that will strengthen the two universities’ strategic priorities as well as develop multi-disciplinary cutting-edge research to create academic and societal impact. We invite proposals from researchers in all disciplines at Rice and Edinburgh.
In this round of the SCA, applicants are encouraged to submit funding proposals for innovative and sustainable programs built around collaborative research linking Edinburgh and Rice. The focus of current research discussions between Edinburgh and Rice include energy, robotics, healthcare and space and satellites but we welcome quality applications from all disciplines. Proposals should be sustainable in the long term with a plan for engagement that includes leveraging external funding and publication outputs.
The proposal should have at least two Principal Investigators, one from Edinburgh and one from Rice. Each successful proposal may receive up to the equivalent of £15,000 / $20,000 from each university for a total of £30,000 / $40,000. Each Institution’s contributions will be used exclusively to fund its own researcher and their research expenses and will not be commingled. The award of any funds from either Institution will be subject, in each case, to the internal processes and procedures of such Institution. Funding is available from May 1, 2024 - July 31, 2025.
Eligibility
Full-time and research faculty members at Rice are eligible to apply. Each grant requires at least one PI from Edinburgh and one PI from Rice. Additional collaborators are welcome but not required. Proposals may be submitted individually or by a group of faculty. Please inform your department chair that you have applied.
Review Process
Award selection will be made by a joint committee formed by members of both universities, which reserves final authority over the selection of projects taking into account university and faculty strategic priorities and the availability of funds.
