The Rice Global Paris Center serves as Rice University’s hub in Europe, facilitating exchange and collaboration with our international partners, furthering high priority research collaborations, and providing a unique and inspiring space for Rice student immersion in France and beyond.

CERN Program

Rice is part of a large program at CERN in nuclear and particle physics as the lead for the research pillar of fundamental research on origins and patterns of the natural world. This is a research priority and also a mechanism to give more students international experiences. Rice students live there for months at a time while they do research in an international collaboration of upwards of 5000 people.

Master of Global Affairs: International Masterclass

Beginning in Spring 2025, Rice's Master of Global Affairs (MGA) offers an applied International Masterclass for second-year MGA students in their final semester to acquire global perspectives on matters inherent to the program's Areas of Study: international security, international political development, and international political economy. The MGA offers these opportunities at no additional cost to students.

Founded in 2002 and located near la Bastille, Rice Architecture Paris provides advanced B.Arch. and M.Arch. students with a semester-long complement to Rice Architecture Houston.

Smalley-Curl Institute: Toulouse Scholar Exchange Program

The Toulouse Scholar Exchange Program is a partnership between Rice University and NanoX (Nanoscale Science & Engineering), a consortium of 6 CNRS laboratories, INSA Toulouse, and the University of Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France. For the past decade, graduate students from Rice University's Applied Physics Program (APP) and NanoX (NEXT previously) have been crossing the Atlantic to visit and collaborate in research centers located in Toulouse, France, and Houston, Texas USA.

Rice Global: Venice International University (VIU) Strategic Partnership

Rice's partnership with VIU allows Rice students and faculty to learn and teach in VIU's Globalization Program. With VIU’s focus on shared challenges such as sustainability, innovation and cultural exchange, Rice strengthens its role as a university that not only generates knowledge locally but also contributes to solving problems on a global scale.

Smalley-Curl Institute: TOMODACHI-Dow Women's STEM Leardership & Research Program

Sponsored by the Smalley-Curl Institute, TOMODACHI-Dow Women's STEM Leadership and Research Program offers a five-week internship experience tailored to a diverse cohort of 10 female students majoring in STEM in Japan. The primary goal of this program is to further diminish the gender gap in the STEM fields in Japan while advancing educational equity.


Rice WaTER Institute: NEWT Alliance

Nanotechnology-Enabled Water Treatment (NEWT) uses nanotechnology to develop water treatment systems that can protect human lives and support sustainable economic development. The NEWT Alliance spans across four universities—Rice, Arizona State University (ASU), Yale, and the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)—allowing NEWT to operate within 30 faculty labs, 13 of which are based at the Rice WaTER Institute. Via the NEWT Alliance, Rice has a persistent collaboration in China (Hangzhou and Tianjin) and Hong Kong.

Chao Center for Asian Studies

The Chao Center for Asian Studies is the premier research hub for faculty, students and postdoctoral scholars working in Asian studies at Rice. The Chao Center's mission includes outreach to Asian and Asian American populations in Houston and beyond, promoting scholarly community building and broader understanding.

Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies

The Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies offers innovative programs that support Rice students in the design and implementation of new technologies to solve real global health challenges. Rice360 has physical spaces in Malawi and Kenya with additional Rice staff stationed in Tanzania and Nigeria.

Baker Institute: Edward P. Djerejian Center for the Middle East

The Baker Institute for Public Policy is a nonpartisan, data-driven think tank based at Rice University. Their dedicated Center for the Middle East works on developing pragmatic policy approaches to the region’s enduring political, economic and societal concerns.

MOU: Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA)

Rice President Reggie DesRoches signed his 1st MOU with Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA), one of the premier Universities in Latin America. Our joint program allows students from ITBA to earn a degree from ITBA while earning a master’s degree from Rice.
