EcoStudio Heads to Rice Global Paris

Have an unforgettable international experience with Rice’s EcoStudio in Paris, offered this Maymester 2023 by the Rice Global Paris Center. This unique environmental arts class will involve fieldwork in Paris, museum and gallery visits, discussions in parks, and creative studio time. No pre-requisites are needed, and students in all majors are welcome. Those enrolled in the Environmental Studies Minor could receive 3 hours of credit toward that minor.

Maymester in Paris Program Details

  • Dates: May 8-26, 2023
  • Program Times: Monday-Friday, 1-4pm
  • Program Location: Rice Global Paris | Paris, France
  • Who Can Apply? Any Rice Undergraduate (no prerequisites)
  • Program Total Cost: $3,000 Tuition + travel to Paris ($800-$2000) and living expenses for 3 weeks ($800-$1000).
  • What's Covered: The program will provide housing for all three weeks, local travel, and some group meals.
  • Financial Aid: Students looking for financial aid to help with expenses should reach out to the Financial Aid Office. Summer tuition qualifies for some assistance, and in some cases grants are available. Students who are eligible to receive Financial Aid can also apply to receive international travel assistance from Rice Global Paris.

Course: EcoStudio in Paris (ENST 422)

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Course Description: EcoStudio gathers creatives from across disciplines to study and create environmental arts projects. We’ll focus on a range of topics and experiment with strategies and techniques useful across various media types. As we learn about the relationship between art and environment, we'll explore our own Parisian environment. Classes will involve fieldwork in Paris, museum and gallery visits, discussions in parks and creative studio time. Students will devise individual projects in their own medium and develop collaborative work in multimedia teams. See Course Schedule

Meet Your Faculty Lead

  • Dr. Lina Dib, Artist & Anthropologist
  • Dib is currently a Lecturer at Rice University and an affiliate artist at the Topological Media Lab in Montreal and TX/RX labs in Houston. She has a PhD in Anthropology and has received grants and awards from Canada’s Social Science and Humanities Research Council, AMIDA’s European training program, and Rice University’s Humanities Research Center.
